‘Samurai Bringer’ Slices Its Way To Switch In April

Update [Thu 31st Mar, 2022 16:35 BST]: As revealed in the NGPX 2022 Showcase, Samurai Bringer will be bringing samurai to Switch on 21st April. Check out the original trailer for the roguelite ARPG and more details below…

Original Story [Mon 24th Jan, 2022 10:00 GMT]: Japanese publisher PLAYISM and developer Alphawing have announced that brand new action-RPG roguelite, Samurai Bringer, will launch on Switch this Spring.

The game, which sees you slice and dice your way through some impressively colourful-looking hordes of beasties, takes inspiration from actual Japanese mythology, with all-manner of ghastly enemies from the annals of history to vanquish as you make your way towards a showdown with your arch-nemesis, the eight-headed serpent Yamata-no-Orochi.

Samurai Bringer’s colourful pixel-art action certainly looks the part and, as you can see from the trailer above, you’ve got plenty in the way of both magical and physical attacks with which to go about destroying those that attempt to stand in your way. In this regard, the game also sees you collect various technique scrolls as you progress through its levels, each of which grants you a new attack and can be switched out, and even sorted into different loadouts, allowing you mix and match and create your own unique fighting style.

Here’s a little more from PLAYISM on the game, alongside some pretty sweet looking screenshots;

Regain Your Former Deity Powers to Save Kushinada

Deity Susano challenged the eight-headed monster serpent to save the sacrificed Kushinada but was defeated in battle and lost his powers. Amaterasu, Bringer of Samurai, intervened and saved Susano. He was then transported by her to conduct trials of strength, vanquishing hordes of samurai and spirits brought forth from the gap in time and space created by Amaterasu to regain Susano’s powers to former glory.

Defeat Over 100 Legendary Japanese Warriors

Over 100 legendary warriors from Japanese legend and history including Oda Nobunaga, Date Masamune, and Sanada Yukimura will be summoned to stand against you. Defeating them will reward you with their weapons and armor imbued with various status boosting effects. Donning this armor will not only give you an advantage in battle, but also add a little style to your loadout too.

Accumulate Experience and Strength through Defeat

Levels are procedurally generated, with enemy placements and type being different every time, which also means different combat scrolls for you to collect. Falling in battle does not mean you lose everything, so keep building up your loadout and fighting style until Susanoo regains his lost strength. Prepare yourself by creating a versatile loadout to deal with various combat situations and aim to bring down the mighty eight-headed serpent, Yamata-no-Orochi.

Will you be donning your armour and jumping into battle against mythological beasties this Spring? Let us know below!
