River City Girls Zero Brings Super Famicom Beat ‘Em Up Action To Switch eShop Next Week

Pre-orders for the physical edition of River City Girls Zero for the Nintendo Switch recently went live, and now to add to this WayForward has locked in a Switch eShop release date.

If you would prefer this over a hard copy of the game, or just can’t wait any longer – you’ll be able to experience this 1994 16-bit beat-’em-up gem in both North America and Europe next week on February 14th. A release on other platforms will follow this Spring.

In case you’ve missed our previous post, River City Girls Zero is a localisation of the ’94 Super Famicom title Shin Nekketsu Koha: Kunio-tachi no Banka – and got delayed until “early 2022” at the end of last year to make sure it was the “best experience” possible when it did arrive.

Ths new version will remain faithful to the original game, but will also include a number of updates:

“River City Girls Zero, meanwhile, lets players experience the first time that Misako and Kyoko teamed up with Kunio and Riki to take to the streets in hard-hitting, curb-stomping action. While the graphics, music, and gameplay all remain true to the classic 16-bit Super Famicom release, this version marks the first time the 1994 game will be localized for the West. A new opening cinematic, new manga cutscenes, and new theme song by River City Girls composer Megan McDuffee have been added as well. Set out solo or team up with a friend in local co-op and discover how the River City Girls story began!”

You can learn more about the Limited Run physical editions in our previous post – pre-orders are available now and there are three different versions to choose from (standard, classic and ultimate):
