Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Won’t Be Getting An Important Online Upgrade On Switch

Bad news for fighting game fans: It looks like Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will be getting rollback netcode on PlayStation and PC, but not the Nintendo Switch.

Rollback netcode is something that fighting games use to reduce lag and reduce network latency in online fighting matches, which is vitally important when playing a game that requires precision timings.

Here’s an 18-minute explainer of how netcode makes a difference, from Adam “Keits” Heart of Killer Instinct studio, Iron Galaxy:

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax comes out on March 17th for Switch, Steam, and PS4, and will be updated with rollback netcode on PS4 and Steam this summer.

Does this seem like a step back for fighting games on the Switch, or were your expectations already low? Give us your rollback netcode thoughts in the comments.
