Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo is creating an ” immersive virtual world experience” called HoYoverse.

The message was delivered by the Chinese studio’s co-founder and CEO Haoyu Cai, who said that HoYoverse will be a cross-media “virtual world” that “integrates games, anime, and other diverse types of entertainment, which will provide players with a high level of freedom and immersion.”

MiHoYo’s most successful game so far is Genshin Impact, but it also oversees Honkai Impact 3rd and Tears of Themis, as well as ‘virtual YouTuber’ Lumi and the Nova Desktop App.

Here’s Haoyu Cai’s full statement:

Our mission in establishing HoYoverse is to create a vast and content-driven virtual world that integrates games, anime, and other diverse types of entertainment, which will provide players with a high level of freedom and immersion. We will continue to focus on long-term operation strategies, consistent technical research, and innovation in a variety of fields, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and pipeline construction, to ensure that sufficient content is created to meet the expectations of players worldwide for a virtual world experience.

Genshin Impact has been a huge success on mobile, PC and PlayStation 4, and while the Switch version was announced in 2020, we still don’t have a release date. In fact, nothing has been said about the Nintendo version for quite some time.

Last year, a rumour circulated that the game had been delayed due to the weak nature of the Switch hardware when compared to other formats.
