Activision Blizzard Boss To Leave When Xbox Deal Is Done, Report Claims

In case you somehow missed it, Microsoft is acquiring Activision Blizzard for around $70 billion. One question that everyone is still asking though, is what’s going to happen to Bobby Kotick, the CEO of the Call of Duty and Warcraft giant?

According to a story over on The Wall Street Journal (paywall), Kotick is expected to be shown the door as soon as the acquisition with Microsoft is complete.

The news shared over on the Xbox website also seems to suggest that Activision Blizzard’s CEO won’t be hanging around after the transaction is done – with Phil Spencer explaining how “once the deal closes” all of Activision Blizzard will report to him, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella has also said the company is committed to making gaming safe and accessible for everyone, which could be hard to convince people of this if Kotick stays on.

Calls for Bobby Kotick to step down have been circulating for some time now – following on abuse claims rocking Activision, and employees staging a walkout after calling for him to resign. If Bobby exits, he’s still expected to receive a significant payout.

Oh, and if you were wondering – Xbox says Activision Blizzard games will continue to release on a variety of platforms… at least for now.
